Active Player - In poker, one who is still in play
Add-on - The facility to buy additional chips in poker tournaments.
All-in - (Also known as "Going All-In") betting all remaining chips at a poker game
Bet - A pledge of money that a certain event will occur.
Bettor - One who bets
Blinds - A forced bet in Hold'em Poker in order to begin the hand. Consisting of a small and big blind, the big blind being played directly after the small, and being double the amount.
Bump - To raise
Burn Cards - Remove cards from the top of the deck, not to be dealt, and discard them before dealing.
Buy-in - The amount of cash used to purchase chips before entering a table game
Call - to call is to match the current bet on a poker table
Core – Used to describe a situation of importance or player of substantial prowess.
Even Money - A 1:1 odds bet.
Favorite - The team, person or hand (poker) more likely to win a particular event.
Flop - In poker games, such as hold'em and Omaha. The first three community cards are dealt all at once, face up, and are called the flop.
Fold (poker) – A player throws in the cards and is out the hand.
Lock - US term for an almost certain winner.
Long Odds - Generally greater than 10:1.
Nuts – The best hand possible to hold in a given game of poker.
On tilt - Going 'on tilt' is a bad reaction to an unlucky hand resulting in uncontrolled wild play.
Placing a Bet -The act of pledging money that a certain event will occur.
Pocket Cards - In poker where some of the player's cards are dealt to them face down. In Texas hold’em each player receives 2 pocket cards.
Pot - The amount of money that accumulates in the middle of the poker table as each player antes, bets, and raises. The pot goes to the winner of the hand.
Quads - In poker hand consisting of four of a kind.
Rake - The money that the Poker Room charges for each hand of poker. It is usually a percentage of the pot in table games or flat fee that is taken from buy in of tournaments.
Royal Flush - Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten, all of the same suit, the best possible poker hand.
Session - A period of play or a table sitting at any gambling game.
Stake - The amount of the bet.
Three of a Kind - In poker, three cards of the same rank.
Trips – Slang for Three of a kind - three cards of the same value.
Underdog - The team, person or hand (poker) less likely to win a particular event.
